It’s been a busy couple of weeks here at Certified Forgotten headquarters, which means you have not gotten the newsletter love you deserve. So this week, we’re going to keep things simple and highlight a few new articles and news items you might’ve missed. April is shaping up to be an incredible month for horror, and you can visit our website for new reviews of Faces of Death (linked below) as well as Exit 8. And there’s plenty more where that came from.

We’re Already Living in the Land of the Dead
If you’re like me, you sometimes forget that George Romero’s zombie franchise didn’t end with Day of the Dead. And while Diary of the Dead and Survival of the Dead have their fans, it’s Land of the Dead that is probably overlooked the most frequently. Thankfully, our contributing editor Christine Makepeace is here to to make the case for Land of the Dead as a worthwhile entry in Romero’s zombie canon.

Faces of Death Review: Shudder’s Meta-Sequel Is Weaponized by Apathy
It’s hard to think of another writer-director combo as consistently engaging as Daniel Goldhaber and Isa Mazzei. Cam is one of the best horror films about internet culture, while How To Blow Up a Pipeline might just be one of the best films of the decade. So when it was announced that they would be collaborating on a Faces of Death remake, I was in from the jump. This new meta-sequel may not be perfect, but I’m endlessly fascinated by Goldhaber and Mazzei’s relationship to their audiences.
Around the Web
Quick hits from around the world of horror and indie journalism.
It was announced this week that Tales from the Crypt will soonnmake its long-awaited streaming debut. That’s a big deal for all of us, but a particularly big deal for our friend Kristen Lopez (thefilmmaven.com), who has a book about the series coming out soon.
Speaking of: Matt Donato helped host a conversation with the Cryptkeeper himself, John Kassir, at the Overlook Film Festival this week. Still waiting to find out if all those Reefer Madness questions I fed him paid off.
Once Donato can catch a break in his schedule, we owe everyone a podcast episode on Faces of Death. In the meantime, you can compare our reviews — mine above and Donato’s at Daily Dead.
We’re about to get a sequel to Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. Reality television and horror are a great match right now.
